Workshop

History

Established in 1983, Humberside IT Service’s primary business activities included the general sale, repair and maintenance of computer related equipment.

In 1998 a lack of available training schemes for newly recruited staff lead to the development of an in-house training course, allowing candidates to gain the essential skills required for the IT maintenance industry.

Proving successful our workshops were opened to the general public who attended short, two hour sessions just one evening per week.  As the first course of its kind the program soon generated interest from other local colleges and training providers, who funded both clients and employees with the purpose of improving IT skills.  At this point, training became the company’s primary focus and classes were being attended both day and night.

In 2000, after many successful funded projects it was suggested that the course syllabus be submitted to an awarding body for official verification.

Official BTEC Award in Computer Engineering Certificate

In 2001 Edexcel approved the qualification as the “National BTEC Award in Computer Engineering Level 2

The following year it became apparent that the course should be made available nationally, to those unable to attend our workshops.

As a result the “Interactive Home Study Kit” was born, allowing candidates to complete the BTEC course, from the comfort of their own home, using a number of specially designed videos and simulations

The Present

The course has now been used to train thousands of people nationwide.  We supply direct to the public via this website and assist other organisations implement effective training for specialist projects.  Some of these organisations include local county councils, schools, colleges, employment advisory services and even the prison service.

Each year our training is subject to scrutiny from our awarding body Edexcel.  Approved providers are expected to meet high standards in training methods, customer services and tutor support.

Our last external verification in July 2007 resulted in an A (Excellent) grade.
