The course begins with an introduction to key components such as the CPU, RAM and Motherboard.  These are then assembled into a case building a fully working computer system.

As we move further through the course the components are then examined in greater depth.

With computer hardware becoming more affordable every day, many people now elect to assemble their own computers.  Often this has turned into a hobby building computers for family and friends.  In many cases this hobby has evolved into a business.

The National BTEC Award in Computer Engineering is essentially a computer hardware course.

Unit 1 is entitled PC Assembly, the unit begins by introducing a candidate to the basic hardware components that are included within your computer system.

We look at how the components should be stored and handled, including preventative measures against ESD (Electro Static Discharge).

We then look at assembling the components step-by-step.

Videos are used to demonstrate the techniques of physically fitting hardware such as the Motherboard, RAM, Heatsink Fan and CPU.

After assembling the unit with then examine the process of installing software drivers to allow the hardware to interact with our operating system.

This has enabled people ranging from 13 years old, to 84 years old with all levels of education to build and test a fully working multimedia computer system.

For first time computer builders we recommend our deluxe kit, that for just £299 includes a brand new computer base unit, and the hardware required to complete Unit 1 in a practical fashion.

This computer hardware course leads to nationally recognised certification from BTEC
