Q. I have installed Windows XP and it will only recognize 2 gig, I'm using a 40 gig hard drive, why is this?
A. I'm guessing that the problem is probably caused because the partition
you are using is FAT 16.
Did you partition the Hard Drive etc. with the formatting and
partitioning disk. If so this disk is MS-DOS and can only partition
drives using the FAT 16 file system.
FAT 16 is limited to 2 GIG and so any drive we have that is
partitioned with this will register as 2 GIG.
To rectify this I would suggest:
Boot from the formatting and partitioning disk
at A: type in FDISK
From the FDISK options select 4. Display Partition Information.
Here, under TYPE we should be able to see if the disk is FAT 16.
Press ESC.
Select 3. Delete DOS Partition.
Select 3 Delete Prinary DOS Partition
Follow on screen prompts to remove the partition.
Once this is done follow task 16, this will give instructions on how
to install Windows XP and create the new NTFS partition.
If you don't understand the File System bit yet don't worry as it's
covered later on.
