STEP 02: Tutor Introduction & Completing The Course Work

On receiving your coursework, the very first instruction will be to register with your tutor.  This is a very simple process that involves clicking a single button and supplying some required information such as your unique enrolment number.
Your tutor will then respond with an introduction email within one working day.

About your tutor

Humberside IT Services must maintain high tuition standards as it is one of the conditions of Edexcel approval.  Every year this is one of many factors on which are externally verified for quality.  In our last verification which took place in July 2007, we were awarded an A (Excellent) grade. All of our tutors have at least 10 years experience of working within the IT industry in a variety of different roles for organisations such as Learndirect, Universities and Computer Maintenance companies. The vast majority of contact with your tutor will be via email, simply posting assessment scores, or asking general questions.  Emails are always answered within one working day and often within an hour (during office hours). When required your tutor is available by telephone during office hours.  Anyone who answers our phone will be a tutor, so even if your personal tutor is unavailable there will be someone there to help.

Even those who are experienced in IT are required to register with a tutor as a condition of the course.

Completing the Coursework

The coursework is presented using a simple, CD based user interface.  You simply move from one task to the next as instructed, watching videos, completing simulations and practical tasks (should you have the required hardware). You will be occasionally presented with a self assessment.  This does not count towards your final mark and simply helps measure your performance.  You should update your tutor with your scores regularly. The 5 units take around 70 learning hours to complete, the deadline on completing these learning hours is up to 5 years.  This allows you to take breaks from the course, or re-study units as many times as required, moving as quickly or slowly as you like.

Once you are achieving around 85% on all self assessments, you will be ready for final assessment.
